The 50/70 Rule

Is there enough Runway left?

Will you make your takeoff before you're out of runway? It's not an question you want be asking yourself on your takeoff roll, especially as you approach rotate speed. So how do you know if you're going to be wheels up before you run out of runway? Obviously, the best place to start is your takeoff performance chart. And after you've run the numbers and determined that you can make a safe takeoff, it's time to back it up with a great rule-of-thumb: the 50/70 rule.
